“The Best Barbecue Allowed Above the…”
Porky Pete’s offers great authentic southern Bar-B-Que on the Connecticut shoreline. You’ll be surprised when you eat our BBQ, it’s like being transported down South. Our premium meats are slow cooked and smoked with Hickory wood.
Our BBQ Sauce for the pork is a Tennessee vinegar based sauce adapted and tweaked for New Englanders…but just a bit. Our signature Chicken is a combination of boneless skinless thighs and breasts rubbed with Mama Selene’s secret blend of spices and smoked to perfection, cut into bite size pieces and bathed in our Tennessee Sauce. Our ribs are a treat but we won’t share our process other than to say, they are perfectly smoked and when done, lightly covered with our Tennessee Sauce and the meat falls off the bone. Our Beef Brisket is not Texas sliced but every morsel is hand pulled and lathered in our authentic Texas BBQ sauce. We use our burnt ends in the process of completing our signature Texas style BBQ, but it’s another of our secrets.
Our BBQ Smoked Pork Sandwich meat is a special process that we’ve adapted specifically for our pork BBQ sandwiches. The hand pulled meat is chopped a bit finer and sauce is added so that it stays in place on our buns so you could actually eat it on the run. If your palate gravitates to the smoked pulled pork without sauce, we offer plates with a mound of our BBQ pork with sauce on the side, sides and corn bread. We invite you to come in and pick up lunch, dinner or for your next party.

About Peter and Selene Sweck
My husband Peter and I were well known in Essex, CT for many years for our annual BBQ event held at our home. Our party grew to include over 150 people invited to join us for Southern Smoked Pulled Pork BBQ and all the trimmings. One year at the beckoning our “WELCOME” sign over the drive, a few New Yorkers took us literally and joined our festivities and food. The laughs enjoyed at the time over chutzpah were nothing compared to the future humor we have enjoyed sharing this story of Southern Hospitality in New England.
We still display a 1st Prize Blue Ribbon won by one of our clients using our BBQ smoked St. Louis Ribs. She was honest and named her winning ribs “I cheated Ribs” and gave us the reward.
After years of discussing the potential of a traditional Tennessee BBQ restaurant in New England, on February 14, 2004, we hoisted our sign and logo with Pete’s caricature riding on a pig and opened our doors to Porky Pete’s BBQ. The entry walls are covered with 60’s and 70’s vinyl albums and jackets with a large opening to view our kitchens and food preparation. Just a short time later, Catering By Selene began sharing the kitchens with Porky Pete’s and offers full service catering, from 6 foot grinders to elegant wedding receptions held all over the State.
